Research incorporates epidemiological and ecological approaches to studies of child and youth development. He has been the principal architect of one of the most important social science projects of this era, the Project on Human Development in Chicago Neighborhoods. This multilevel, longitudinal study is simultaneously examining the influence of community, family and individual factors on violent behavior. He has also completed a cluster randomized controlled trial of a youth-centered, health promotion program addressing the HIV epidemic in Tanzania. Current work is probing applications of human rights for children internationally.
