Research centers on the logic of kinship systems, the ethnography of Europe, especially the Balkans, and of Latin America, demography, especially the historical demography of Europe and of the Balkans in particular. Recent work has focused on the ethnic and socio-economic history of the former Yugoslavia, the decline of fertility in 18th and 19th century Croatia, and the demographic vulnerability of those populations to economic and social stress.
