Erick M. Carreira

Carreira has made major contributions to the development of new synthetic methods, including groundbreaking work in asymmetric aldol condensations and enantioselective additions of alkynes to aldehydes. Further he has described a number of important catalytic asymmetric methods including the use of [2.2.2]-bicyclooctadienes as ligands for Ir-catalyzed processes and á-arylations of aldehydes. Further, his work in the total synthesis of natural products as well as his efforts on the use of oxetanes in medical chemistry is top level. His eclectic nature will allow him to interact with members of the academy who are in many different fields of study.
