Erica Palma Kimmerling
Erica was the Hellman Fellow for Science and Technology Policy for 2017-2019. Her primary work at the Academy has been on the Public Face of Science project, and she is continuing this work until the completion of the project.
As a NIH Pre-Doctoral Fellow, her research focused on designing new approaches for the three-dimensional culture of human kidney cells in order to gain a better understanding of kidney development and disease. As part of the leadership for the national communicating science workshop series, ComSciCon, Erica chaired the organizing team for multiple workshops focused on empowering graduate students to effectively communicate science to a diverse range of audiences. She has also launched a spinoff of ComSciCon, BiteScis, focused on developing lesson plans through partnerships between graduate students and K-12 educators.
