Elisabeth Rosenthal is the editor-in-chief of Kaiser Health News, a national newsroom producing in-depth journalism about health issues and about how health care systems — hospitals, doctors, nurses, insurers, governments, consumers — work.

Rosenthal is also a contributing Opinion Writer at The New York Times, where she was an award-winning reporter for over twenty years. At the Times, Rosenthal gained acclaim for her coverage of health and health policy issues, and served as a reporter in the Beijing bureau. While in China she covered SARs, bird flu and the emergence of HIV/AIDS in rural areas. Her publications include An American Sickness: How Healthcare became Big Business and How You Can Take it Back; and the two-year-long reporting series “Paying Till it Hurts.”

A former physician, Rosenthal graduated from Stanford University and Harvard Medical School.
