Dr.

Elaine S. Oran

Texas A&M University
Area
Mathematical and Physical Sciences
Specialty
Engineering and Technology
Elected
2018
Her work has played a major role in defining and developing the field of numerical simulation of reactive flows. She has pioneered computational technology for the solution of complex reactive flow problems, unifying concepts from science, mathematics, engineering, and computer science in a new methadology. An incredibly diverse range of phenomena can be modeled and better understood using Dr. Oran's techniques for numerical simulation of fluid flows, ranging from the tightly-grouped movements of fish in earth's oceans to the explosions of far flung supernovae in space. Her contributions to the AAAS would be of the same high caliber as her continuing dedication to transformative research and her active leadership contributions to the NAE and AIAA.
