Eduardo Sontag is University Distinguished Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering & Bioengineering and an Affiliate in Mathematics & Chemical Engineering at Northeastern University. At Harvard Medical School, he is on the faculty of the Laboratory of Systems Pharmacology. He is a research affiliate at MIT's Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems, and an affiliate at Rutgers's Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine.

He has has made breakthroughs in the mathematics of nonlinear and complex systems, which are relevant to biomedicine, systems biology and neural networks.

Sontag has authored over five hundred research papers and monographs and book chapters. He is in the Editorial Board of several journals, including: Cell Systems, IET Proceedings Systems Biology, Synthetic and Systems Biology, International Journal of Biological Sciences, and Journal of Computer and Systems Sciences.
