Research centers on the physics of strongly-correlated electron materials, particularly the high trasition temperature cuprate superconductors. He has developed numerical simulation techniques for studying the physical properties of interacting many-electron systems. His research suggested that a variety of superconducting strangly-correlated electron materials ranging from the heavy fermion materials and certain organic materials to the high T(c) cuprates have d-wave orbital pairing driven by local antiferromagnetic exchange interactions.
