Former president of Spelman College where he helped to increase its endowment and raise its academic rank, the results of his ten-year stewardship as president. As CEO of the College Board, he steered the SAT's through years of intense controversy over cultural bias and restored confidence in the national entrance exam by instigating carefully calibrated recognition of ethnic and income variables among the examined populations. Stewart's presidency of the Chicago Community Trust augmented the foundation's encouragement of marginal, under-served and experimental community enterprises. His professional experience and wisdom now serve graduate students at the Harris School of Public Policy Studies, University of Chicago.
