Soprano. Opera singer and recitalist whose repertoire ranges from the works of Bach to contemporary composers. Opera roles include works by Mozart as well as Stravinsky, Poulenc, and Messiaen. Featured on many recordings, including the Symphony No. 3 by Henryk Gorecki, as well as recital and musical theater records. Has made over 300 appearances at the Metropolitan Opera. A four-time Grammy Award winner and a MacArthur Fellowship recipient. Director of Vocal Arts program at Tanglewood, Artistic Director of Bard College Conservatory of Music.
