David St. John
David St. John has published twelve full collections of poetry from two major publishers and co-edited an important Norton Anthology (American Hybrid: A Norton Anthology of the New Poem, 2009) in addition to a critical book of his own prose (Where Angels Come Toward Us, 1995). His awards include The Rome Prize and an Award in Literature from The American Academy of Arts and Letters, a Guggenheim Fellowship, the James D. Phelan Prize, and the O.B. Hardison, Jr. Poetry Prize in 2001, and numerous National Endowments for the Arts Fellowships. St. John has written libretti for the opera based on his book, The Face, by Donald Crockett, and the choral symphony, The Shore, by Frank Ticheli. He is University Professor and Professor of English and Comparative Literature and also Chair of English at The University of Southern California. He is a Chancellor of The Academy of American Poets.
