David Hajjar is a distinguished professor of pathology and biochemistry in the field of cardiovascular medicine. He was a superb scientific administrator at Cornell's medical college and graduate school, focusing on program development and international education policy. He led development of medical college's $1.7 billion education and research plan; designed $180 million de novo research program for Qatar campus; doubled size and improved rankings of graduate school during 16 years as dean. His recent focus is on international knowledge transfer and development of science programs in the Middle East as Fulbright Scholar (2011), Senior Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School of Government (2013), and National Academies-selected Jefferson Science Fellow at State Department (2014), and as a senior fellow at the Brookings Institute (2016)(science policy and diplomacy).
