Contributions in areas as diverse as oceanography, climate change, biogeochemistry, microbial oceanography, and ocean engineering. His work and vision have influenced the directions and perspectives of contemporary oceanography, and he continues to apply his broad perspective to some of the most challenging and critical scientific issues of our time. Leadership promotes, enables and implements sustained, global ocean biogeochemical measurements, as exemplified in the > 25 year Hawaii Ocean Time Series program, and its global contributions to the field, and society.
