David C. Kaslow

Physician scientist David C. Kaslow is the Director of the Office of Vaccines Research and Review (OVRR) in the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), an agency within the Food and Drug Administration. The mission of OVRR is to protect and enhance public health by assuring the availability of safe and effective vaccines, allergenic extracts, and other related products.

Kaslow has more than 35 years of experience in vaccine research and development. As Head of Center for Vaccine Innovation and Access (CVIA) at the non-profit PATH, Kaslow led the work to accelerate the development and introduction of lifesaving vaccines for the women, children, and communities around the world who need them most. At PATH, he was Director of the Malaria Vaccine Initiative (MVI), leading the development of well-tolerated and effective vaccines against malaria. While at PATH he also supported teams that developed vaccines for enteric and diarrheal diseases, for respiratory infections and maternal immunization, and for emerging diseases, including COVID-19.

His range of work experiences also include the U.S. government (NIH), biotech (Vical), multi-national pharma (Merck Research Laboratories.)

Kaslow has contributed to the vaccine application of tools originally developed for gene therapy and holds or co-holds more than a dozen patents and has published more than 250 scientific articles.
