Daniel I. Rubenstein is a behavioral ecologist and the Class of 1877 Professor of Zoology in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Princeton University. His work spans a broad spectrum, from filter feeders to ungulates, and his publications have blended theory, experiment, and observation.

Rubenstein's main research focuses on the biology of zebras and other equids, and his research and that of his students and collaborators seek the study and protection of these species. He has based much of his work out of the Mpala Research Center in Kenya.

Rubenstein is a Fellow of the Animal Behavior Society, where he was previously president and received the Exemplar Award. He earned his Ph.D. at Duke University.
