Dana Robert 's scholarship, and her guidance of over 70 Ph.D. students from around the world, have shaped the growing field of World Christianity. Her books and articles have especially documented the importance of African Christianity, and the significant role of women missionaries in cross-cultural religious encounters. Through her Ph.D. students in Africa, Asia, and Latin America; her Directorship of the Center for Global Christianity; and her leadership in pioneer digital humanities projects, she has made Boston University a world-renowned center of research into Christianity as a contemporary, multi-cultural, global religion.
