Jurafsky has pioneered the application of computational linguistic techniques to a variety of fields, including linguistics, cognitive science, artificial intelligence, computational social science, as well as the study of food, and is one of the most cited scholars in the world in computational linguistics. He co-authored the widely-used textbook Speech and Language Processing, and co-created one of the first massively open online courses, on Natural Language Processing. James Beard finalist (2015), MacArthur Fellow (2002).
