Journalist who writes about science, health, and the environment. Throughout her career gained recognition from peers and the scientific community for writing on science, risk, and public policy--from the early HIV/AIDS epidemic to the growing climate change threat--as well as initiatives to improve science communication to the public. At Harvard she focuses on media, energy, and environment. She writes on science and the media as a Columbia Journalism Review contributing editor and as a correspondent for The Atlantic magazine website. Former science reporter for The Washington Post and the Washington Star, and long-standing leader in the profession. Served as president of the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing, and earlier as president of the National Association of Science Writers.
