Professor Claes von Hofsten is a Professor of Psychology at Uppsala University. He has developed the use of sophisticated motion analysis methods to describe how human infants look at and reach for objects. He is especially interested in very young infants because the study of them can provide answers to questions related to innate abilities. He is also interested in how the developmental process can be compromised in different ways by studying children with autism and CP. He was the first to show that infants can catch a moving object, have a mirror neuron system, and correctly interpret the direction of gaze of another person. Some of his honors include Kurt Koffka medal and fellowship from American Psychological Society.
