Professor of Chemistry. Made contributions to fundamental synthetic inorganic chemistry involving transition metal complexes and main group elements. Most memorable work employed trisanilide complexes of molybdenum and niobium for studies of small-molecule activation, including scission of the dinitrogen molecule's triple bond. Developed methods to access reactive, unsaturated phosphorus intermediates.
