Professor Emeritus of Neurobiology University of California, Los Angeles Research from 1945-1985 centered on neuroendocrine mechanisms controlling the pituitary gland and reproductive phenomena in female mammals. With stereotaxic equipment and electrophysiological techniques he identified different brain sites controlling sexual behavior and pituitary-gonadal function, observed a central nervous cholinergic-adrenergic sequence in pituitary activation, and recorded different EEG threshold changes in limbic-hypothalamic versus reticular-sustem-hypothalamic circuity induced by altered steroid hormonal levels. These include the effects of antifertility steroids. While still interested in neuroendocrinology he closed his research laboratory in 1985.
