Candida R. Moss

Candida Moss is the Edward Cadbury Professor of Theology at the University of Birmingham, UK and a Research Associate at the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World at New York University. Her area of specialization is ancient history and early Christianity and the New Testament, with particular focuses on martyrdom, persecution, disability, enslavement, and other questions to do with marginalized groups. Her books include Divine Bodies, God's Ghostwriters, Myth of Persecution, Reconceiving Infertility, and Ancient Christian Martyrdom. In addition to her academic books and articles, Moss writes a column for The Daily Beast and has contributed to LA Times, Politico Magazine, BBC, CNN, New York Times, Washington Post, Slate, the Chronicle of Higher Education, and the Times Higher Education Supplement. She has also contributed to CBS News as a Papal News Contributor and has contributed to documentaries for National Geographic, History Channel, BBC, Discovery, and CNN. Moss graduated from the University of Oxford, received her advanced degrees from Yale University, and was on the faculty of the University of Notre Dame prior to become a chaired professor at the University of Birmingham. She lives in New York.
