Leading investigator of active galactic nuclei working at X-ray, infrared and optical wavelengths. Distinguished for work on relating different types of AGN, including blazars with relativistic jets, and on characterizing the growth of supermassive black holes over cosmic time. Leader in gender equity and increasing participation in science. Early proponent of the "flipped classroom."
