One of the first to generate and maintain human T cell clones from AIDS patients; advanced efforts to identify antigens of HIV-infected cells that are targets for cytotoxic T cells. Discoveries relate disease pathogenesis to questions in immunology and impact design of therapeutic protocols and vaccination strategies. Established research center in Africa devoted to studying HIV virus.
