Primary interest is human-environmental science focused on land change and sustainability. Specific research themes include ancient Maya land use and environmental consequences, smallholder agriculture and its intensification, tropical deforestation and its human-environment implications, vulnerability of social-environmental systems, and land system science with special attention to sustainable configurations of urban landscapes.
