Meijer's development of rapidly scalable synthetic routes to complex dendritic macromolecules in 1993 was followed in 1994 by his demonstration of those highly-branched structures serving as elegant host systems, which he termed the "dendritic box." His impact increased in 2000 through his remarkable transformation of the physical and mechanical properties of telechelic polymers via supramolecular chain end interactions, facilitated by installation of quadruply hydrogen-bonding UPy groups. Translation of Meijer's fundamental work to practical impact on society has been accomplished by his founding of companies that utilize supramolecular chemistry to achieve unique structure-properties-function relationships. Most recently, he has been redefining the concepts of dispersity and (im)perfection, creatively generating new opportunities for unique organic materials properties.
