Professor Emeritus and Research Professor, Semmelweis University. Research centers on interactions between the central nervous system and the endocrine glands. He constructed a special knife (called Halsz knife) to interrupt some or all connections of a brain region. He provided the first experimental data on (i) the existence of neural connections between the brain and the target endocrine glands, (ii) the action of pituitary hormones on the brain, (iii) the localization of the neural mechanism triggering ovulation. Present research interests include neural pathways involved in lactation, morphological and functional aspects of neurotransmission related to the control of endocrine glands.
