Beate Roessler is professor of ethics at the University of Amsterdam. Her fields of research include theories of freedom and autonomy, theories of privacy, ethical and political questions of the digital society, the ethics of technology, ethics and the good life, and feminist theories. She is author of Autonomy. An essay on the Life Well-Lived and co-editor of Social Dimensions of Privacy: Interdisciplinary Perspectives, among many other works. Roessler is chair of the Capacity group of Philosophy and Public Affairs and co-editor of European Journal of Philosophy and Privacy Studies Journal.

Roessler was previously the Socrates-Professor for the Foundations of Humanism at Leiden University and has taught at Free University of Berlin and University of Bremen. A member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities, she completed her Ph.D. at Free University of Berlin.
