Ethnographer, folklorist, curator, with a focus on the aesthetics of everyday life, at home in Performance Studies, with an emphasis on Jewish life in its many linguistic and cultural forms, she pioneered new interdisciplinary approaches, introducing collaborative enterprises such as the MODIYA Project (NYU), an open source platform for exploring Jews, media, and religion as an area of research and teaching, in collaboration with Jeffrey Shandler. Since 2006, she has been Chief Curator of the Core Exhibition and Advisor to the Director at POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, in Warsaw, which was named the 2016 European Museum of the Year and won the 2016 Museum Academy Prize.
