Attahiru Jega, former Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, is a respected political scientist and a recognized authority on democratization in Nigeria. Under his leadership as Chair of the Independent National Electoral Commission from 2010 through 2015, Nigeria underwent a remarkable democratic transition marked by strategic reforms, which allowed for the nation's most successful and democratic transfer of power in 2015. The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) awarded Jega with its 2015 Charles T. Manatt Democracy Award in recognition of this important work. Jega has previously served as President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities as well as Pro-Chancellor and Chair of the Governing Council of Plateau State University, Bokkos.
