Research involved application of radioisotopes in exploration of biochemical mechanisms. From metabolism of carbon dioxide, arsenate, sulfate and phospate in plants and algae, novel metabolites have been discovered. Lipid analyses of marine organisms revealed importance of wax ester as a primary medium for energy storage by most animals of mid-ocean depths, by corals, copepods and vertically migrating chains of lipids with membranes and proteins.
