Andrea Liu is a theoretical physicist who is currently the Hepburn Professor of Physics at the University of Pennsylvania. Her ongoing research concerns theoretical problems in soft matter physics, including jamming in glass-forming liquids, foams and granular materials, and biophysical self-assembly and motility in actin structures and other systems. She is a theorist in the fundamentals of statistical physics and chemistry and her work provided a unified framework for jamming that encompass glasses as well as granular matter and foams, and discovered a new class of elementary excitations in jammed systems.
