My interests include the following: human origins, especially regarding the origin and spread of Homo sapiens, behavioral evolution, cognitive evolution, hunter-gatherer studies, evolution of human diets and dietary adaptations, emergence of symbolic behavior, African archaeology and early history. In addition to multiple African countries, I have also conduced research in Europe (France, Sweden), China, and the Near East (Syria, Jordan, Lebanon). I am interested in improving the public understanding of science in the US and elsewhere, both through formal educational programs from K-12 to university, and through informal science education in museums, social media, popular media and other outlets.
