Influential scholar of art/architecture and cultural development in Italy and the Mediterranean for which she received a one million US$ prize from the Max Planck and Alexander von Humboldt Foundations. Books have had a great influence on the practice of architectural history and include The Architectural Treatise in Italian Renaissance (1999), From Ornament to Object: Genealogies of Architectural Modernism (2012), Teofilo Gallaccini and the Dialogue between Architecture and Science in the Age of Galileo (2012) and L’architecture parmi les arts (2016). She is Alexander P. Misheff Professor of History of Art and Architecture at Harvard University and was recently appointed director of the Harvard Center for Renaissance studies in Florence.
