Alfred Brendel is an Austrian pianist, writer and poet. In a concert career encompassing sixty years, he regularly appeared in all major musical centres. One of the most prolific recording artists, his repertoire included works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Liszt, as well as Schoenberg's Piano Concerto. Collected poems “Playing the Human Game” appeared 2005 (Phaidon), collected musical essays “Music, Sense and Nonsense” 2016 (Robson Books). His many honours include the Leonie Sonning Prize (2002), the Siemens Prize (2004), Premio Artur Rubinstein (2007), and the Praemium Imperiale (2008).
