Trained as a sociologist, Aileen Moreton-Robinson has emerged as a leading senior scholar in the development of global Indigenous studies, authoring field-shaping books and essays and editing several important volumes while playing key roles in the founding of three academic organizations. Her scholarly work is theoretically dense while remaining strongly connected to and rooted in the daily lives and experiences of Aboriginal Australians, especially women. Her work on the role of whiteness in the dispossession of Indigenous Australians has given her international prominence alongside historians and legal scholars who have worked on parallel topics in the North American context.
