His writings deal with the philosophy of physics, the theory of scientific rationality, the philosophy of psychiatry, and the critique of religious belief. His treatise, Philosophical Problems of Space and Time and his other publications on the philosophy of physics were very influential. Thereafter, a spin-off from his detailed critical scrutiny of Karl Popper''s falsificationist philosophy of science, he published two books fundamentally challenging psychoanalytic theory and therapy. The first of these, The Foundations of Psychoanalysis: A Philosophical Critique (1984) has been widely hailed as the most substantial philosophical critique of Freud ever written. During the past decade, he has steadfastly disputed theological interpretations of physical cosmogony and cosmology. His contributions have been recognized in two separate Festschrift volumes: Physics, Philosophy and Psychoanalysis: Essays in Honor of Adolf Grünbaum and Philosophical Problems of the Internal and External Worlds: Essays on the Philosophy of Adolf Grünbaum.
