Pellom McDaniels III

Pellom McDaniels III is the Curator of the African American Collections of the Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library at Emory University. A biographer, sports historian, and former professional football player, his scholarly interests include African Americans and World War I, nineteenth- and twentieth-century notions of black masculinity, African Americans and the intersection of sports and civil rights, and the politics of representation in African American art. He has written for the International Review of African American Art; Blackball: A Negro Leagues Journal; and the Journal of Sports History. His books include The Prince of Jockeys: The Life of Isaac Burns Murphy and Porter Steward, Citizen: An African American’s Memoir of World War I. McDaniels is a member of the Organization of American Historians, the American Studies Association, the North American Society for Sports History, and the Association for the Study of African American Life and History.
