Presented by The New York Council for the Humanities and the New York State Library, Archives, and Museum, in partnership with the American Academy of Arts & Sciences
ALBANY, NY – Retired US Supreme Court Justice David Souter comes to Albany next week to address many of the issues raised in a report released this summer by the American Academy of Arts & Sciences’ Commission on the Humanities & Social Sciences. A member of the Commission, Justice Souter will discuss the report, The Heart of the Matter, in terms of civic knowledge and responsibility.
The report asks, “Who will lead America into a bright future?” And answers, “Citizens who are educated in the broadest possible sense, so that they can participate in their own governance and engage with the world.” Justice Souter will expand on that theme.
The New York Council for the Humanities and the New York State Library, Archives, and Museum are hosting Justice Souter in Albany for a public forum to continue the discussion and to examine some of the issues raised by the report.
Thursday, September 12, 2013, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Clark Auditorium, Cultural Education Center (222 Madison Ave., Empire State Plaza)
