The Academy honored Kwame Anthony Appiah with the Don M. Randel Award for Humanistic Studies. The program included the award presentation as well as a conversation between Appiah and journalist Margaret Sullivan.
An author, philosopher, and public intellectual, Appiah is best known for his contributions to political philosophy, moral psychology, and the philosophy of culture. He has published widely in literary and cultural studies, with a focus on African and African-American culture. The Don M. Randel Award recognizes his outstanding contribution to humanistic scholarship. Appiah was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1995 and serves as a member of the Academy’s Board.
