2019 Induction Weekend: Induction Ceremony
We invited all newly elected members to join us for the induction ceremony. Following an introduction from Academy President David Oxtoby, a greeting to our International Honorary Members from James Cuno, reading of the traditions of membership, reading from the letters of John and Abigail Adams by Jane and Ronald Olson, and a performance by the Boston Children's Chorus, we heard from our class speakers.
Our Class I: Mathematical and Physical Sciences speakers were climatologists Ellen Mosley-Thompson and Lonnie G. Thompson. The Class II: Biological Sciences speaker was microbiologist Jo Handelsman. For Class III: Social and Behavioral Sciences, we heard from diplomat Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein. Our Class IV: Humanities and Arts speaker was historian Margaret D. Jacobs, and the speaker for Class V: Public Affairs, Business, and Administration was lawyer and advocate Sherrilyn Ifill.
