RGXXI: Committee on Policies for Chemical Weapons and Chemical Arms Control

ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION

Historical Note

The Committee on Policies for Chemical Weapons and Chemical Arms Control was officially in operation from 1976-1978. The purpose of the Committee was to systematically analyze the critical issues involved with chemical weapons policy and to develop a framework for official deliberations among nations. Matthew Meselson served as chair for the duration. The majority of work was done in 1977, by a conference of the same name, held January 21-22, 1977 at the House of the Academy and co-sponsored with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. The Proceedings of the conference were published by the Carnegie Endowment in 1978.

Funding was provided by the Johnson Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and Harvard University's Program for Science and International Affairs
