Jill Medvedow

Arts education, equity, representation, and civic partnerships are priorities for Jill Medvedow, the Ellen Matilda Poss Director of the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston. She is committed to connecting contemporary art with civic life, increasing public access to the arts, and amplifying the voices of artists. As Director of the ICA/Boston, her advocacy transformed the museum with a new building on a public waterfront site, award-winning teen programs, groundbreaking exhibitions of social relevance, a seasonal site in East Boston, and an exponential increase in visitors and public engagement. Recently, Medvedow was selected as co-commissioner of the U.S. Pavilion at the 2022 Venice Biennale, presenting Simone Leigh: Sovereignty, an exhibition and convening that centers the history and experiences of Black women.

Medvedow sits on the Boston Public School Arts Advisory Board, serves on the Boston After School and Beyond board, and is a member of the Association of Art Museum Directors. Prior to joining the ICA, Medvedow was the Deputy Director/ Curator of Contemporary Art at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and the founder of Vita Brevis, a public art initiative. She is the subject of an MIT Sloan School of Management Case Study on Leadership.
