Directions to the House of the Academy
The House of the Academy is located at 136 Irving Street on
five-and-a-half wooded acres on the Cambridge/Somerville line. Please note that the vehicle
entrance to the Academy is at 200 Beacon Street, Somerville, Massachusetts.
The Porter Square train stop is a 15-minute walk for those coming by
subway (for bus maps see the
MBTA web site). You can also get door-to-door directions to the Academy
from
Yahoo.
Driving From Logan Airport
Leaving Logan Airport, bear left onto the Rt. 1A South ramp toward the
Sumner Tunnel (I-93)/Boston. There is a $3.00 toll levied on all cars before
they enter the tunnel. At the end of the tunnel, take the I-93 North/Route 1
North/Rt. 3 North ramp on your left. Merge onto the central artery expressway.
Take Exit 26 for Storrow Drive West, Cambridge, and continue, following signs
for Storrow Drive. Take the Kendall Square exit and cross the Longfellow bridge
over the Charles River and head toward Kendall Square. At this point you should
be on Main Street. Continue straight on Main Street through three sets of
lights and then turn right onto Hampshire Street (about 1/2 a block after the
third set of lights). Hampshire changes names and becomes Beacon Street a few
blocks before the Academy. Just continue going straight for 12 minutes or so
and the Academy will be on your left at 200 Beacon St. Please follow all
parking restrictions, including "Resident permit only", as posted by Cambridge
and Somerville.

Driving From I-93 North/South
Take Exit 26 for Storrow Drive West, Cambridge, and continue, following signs

Driving From Western Massachusetts
On I-90 east (Massachusetts Turnpike), take the Allston/Cambridge exit #18 and head northeast on Cambridge Street which becomes River Street as you cross over the Charles River. Continue straight and cross Massachusetts Avenue where River Street becomes Prospect Street. Turn left at Hampshire Street and continue straight as it becomes Beacon Street. The Academy entrance will be on the left at 200 Beacon Street. Total distance from the Massachusetts Turnpike is approximately 3 miles. Please follow all parking restrictions, including "Resident
permit only", as posted by Cambridge and Somerville. Park and enter the Academy grounds by the gate and follow the pathway to the main entrance. Go to map
From Harvard Square
Take Massachusetts Avenue (north) from Harvard Square. After passing
Harvard Yard, bear right down through the underpass. Stay left as you emerge
from the underpass, following signs for Kirkland Street. Turn left at the light
onto Quincy Street. Continue to the next set of lights and turn right onto
Kirkland Street. Follow Kirkland Street for four blocks. Turn left onto Irving
Street. Bear right at the next intersection onto Scott Street. At the next
corner is the pedestrian entrance to the Academy. Park and enter the Academy
grounds by the gate; follow the pathway to the main entrance at 200 Beacon
Street. Please follow all parking restrictions, including "Resident permit

From Porter Square
Take Somerville Avenue (southeast) one-quarter mile to the blinking traffic
light. Turn right over the bridge onto Beacon Street. Follow Beacon Street
about one-half mile. Pass by the vehicle entrance to the Academy and continue
to the second set of lights. Turn right onto Kirkland Street. Take the first
right onto Holden Street. Go two short blocks to the corner of Bryant and Scott
Streets. Park and enter the Academy grounds by the gate; follow the pathway to
the main entrance at 200 Beacon Street. Please follow all parking restrictions,

From Kendall and Inman Squares
From just north of Kendall Square, take Hampshire Street (northwest) about
one mile to Inman Square. Continue straight through Inman Square onto Beacon
Street. Go one-half mile to the lights at the first major intersection. Turn
left onto Kirkland Street. Take the first right onto Holden Street. Go two
short blocks to the corner of Bryant and Scott Streets. Park and enter the
Academy grounds by the gate; follow the pathway to the main entrance at 200
Beacon Street. Please follow all parking restrictions, including "Resident

Parking
There is no parking available on the Academy grounds, except
for two handicapped parking spots. Please follow all parking restrictions,
including "Resident permit only" and "Two hour parking limit", as posted by
Cambridge and Somerville.
Subway
From Park Street: Take the Red Line toward Alewife and
get off at Porter Square. Exit through the right-hand doors of the train
station (you should see CVS on the opposite side of the street) and turn right
down Somerville Avenue for one block. Turn right onto Beacon Street and cross
over the bridge. The Academy will be a 10- to 15-minute walk on your right just
past Star Market.
From the Airport: Take the Blue Line inbound from Logan to Government
Center. Switch to the Green Line inbound for one stop, exiting at Park Street
station. Switch one more time to the Red Line heading toward Alewife and get
off at the Porter Square Stop. Follow the walking directions above.
Silver Line Directions: Take the Silver Line
either to South Station or Downtown Crossing (depending on point of origin) and
then transfer to the Red Line. Take the Red Line toward Alewife and get off at
Porter Square. Follow the walking directions above.
